South Iceland hosts a mountainous volcanic region with immense waterfalls and expansive glaciers.  Hekla volcano, Iceland’s most active volcano, which last erupted in March 2000, resides here.  At her base lies Thjorsardalur, a lush green valley with gaping gorges and stunning waterfalls.

Thorsmork is surrounded on all sides by towering glaciers and mountains. Sheltered from bad weather conditions, Thorsmork has a unique and diverse landscape.  It is popular with hikers who enjoy its wooded valleys and gorges, and with off-road drivers who reach its rivers and lagoons in super jeeps.
Myrdalsjokull is Iceland’s fourth largest glacier, with an area of 590km.  It sits on a volcano “Katla” which last erupted in 1918.  Just behind Myrdalsjokull, the Fjallabak region is a beautiful scenic spot abundant in hot springs.  Great for hiking, the heart of the region is Landmannalaugar, where you can swim in a natural warm bathing pool, beneath an overhanging lava wall.
