In South-West Iceland you will find some of our most significant historical and geographical sites.
Thingvellir Naitonal Park, on the banks of Icelands biggest lake Tingvallavatn, is a haven for birds and wildlife, which thrive in a volcanic terrain, among lava fields and canyons.
Reykjanes Peninsula is an active volcanic system 45km from Reykjavik. Baron of vegetation due to large lava fields moving under the surface, it releases pressure through hot springs and sulphur springs, and is a natural source of energy. A hot bed of geothermal activity, you can bathe in the soothing mineralized powder blue water of the famous Blue Lagoon pool at Svartsengi.
An hour East from Reyjkavik are Gullfoss & Geysir. Gullfoss, the "Golden Falls", is a 33 metre high waterfall which drops on two levels before cascading into a mile long gorge. Although not the biggest, it is considered the most spectacular waterfall in Iceland. Down the road at Geysir you can see the island’s only regularly spouting geyser, Strokkur, which erupts in a 30 metre high spurt, every few minutes.
